The Bell Academy
The first semester of the Iron Range Engineering Junior Year
The Bell Academy gives students a choice to either attend the semester in person in Northeastern, MN or attend virtually from home. The live online format has students attend classes via Zoom while the course is in session.
Industry project experience
IRE students have the opportunity to work on an industry project their first semester with a local company. This allows students to gain experience working on teams, going through a design process, and solving an open-ended problem. These project posters are created by the student engineering teams.
Technical learning in the bell academy
Each IRE student takes on average 8 technical courses throughout the Bell Academy and are able to apply that knowledge to their industry project.
student life
IRE has a variety of student groups available to join. These include the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Society of Air and Space (SAS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society for Mining Metallurgy Exploration (SME), and others. Additionally, we believe in practicing life-work balance and incorporating community-building events into our program.
IRE is an ABET accredited upper division engineering transfer program for students coming from a community college or equivalent education experience at a university seeking a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. This program model allows students to graduate with 2.5 years of engineering experience!
