Step One to Apply to IRE: Become a Bell Scholar
What is a Bell Scholar
When you apply to transfer in as a Junior in the IRE program, you become what we call a Bell Scholar which enters you into a community of student constructors and engineers preparing to transfer into our program. You can apply to be a Bell Scholar during your Freshman or Sophomore year while you are attending your local community college or other university. Becoming a scholar does not mean you are required to transfer into the program.
Why Join the bell scholar community
The Bell Scholars community is the first step towards joining our innovative family. The goals of the Bell Scholars community are:
- Setting expectations for engineering as a profession and the workload of an Iron Range Engineering student constructor or engineer.
- Preparing students for the Bell Academy and their Co-Op job search.
- Evaluation, both of the students by the program and by the students of the program.
- Building a community of peers, and building trust between students and staff.
The first semester in our program is called the Bell Academy. The Bell Academy is an accelerated development semester in which students are rapidly prepared to thrive in the professional world of engineering. Students experience great amounts of growth in professionalism, open-ended problem solving (Design), and technical engineering principles. The pace is very similar to the pace of industry to get students accustomed to the pace they will experience in their final four semesters of school.
